Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve Photo Competition

This year we are hosting an astrophotography competition to find our 13 images for the 2027 calendar. The Wairarapa Dark Sky Astrophotography Competition aims to celebrate the beauty, value and uniqueness of the Wairarapa night sky. For one lucky person our partnership with Fuji Film NZ means a fabulous prize is up for grabs!

Competition Theme

“Under Wairarapa’s Dark Skies”

Images should capture the connection between:

  • the night sky,

  • the landscape,

  • people or place,

  • and the sense of wonder found in Wairarapa after dark.

Images must be taken within:

  • the recognised Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve boundaries, OR

  • the wider Wairarapa region including Masterton, acknowledging the current reserve extension application process.

Applications will open 1 July and close 1 September with winners announced on 25 September.

Winners will be published in the 2027 fundraising calendar and each will receive a copy of the calendar. One of the 13 selected images will then go on to be chosen by the Fuji Film team and receive the Fujifilm X T-50 and lens.
